Argentina fans nominated for Best FIFA Fan Award

FIFA has announced the shortlisted candidates for the Best FIFA Football Awards 2022. There are various categories such as Best FIFA Player, Best FIFA Coach and Best FIFA Goalkeeper for the female and male sections. The FIFA Puskás Award will be named after Hungarian striker Ferenc Puskás as the player who scores the “most beautiful” goal. Then, there is a category for the Best FIFA Fan Award.

Argentina national team fans, who traveled to Qatar in surprising numbers to support their team’s ultimately successful FIFA World Cup campaign, have been nominated to win the Best Fan Award. Millions of Argentine fans greeted their heroes on their return to Buenos Aires and the rest of the country.

The category also includes nominations for Japanese fans, who gained worldwide popularity for their habit of helping to clean up stadiums after World Cup matches.

Abdullah Al Salmi is another candidate in this category. He crossed the Saudi Arabian desert on foot from his hometown of Jeddah to Qatar to support his national team, Saudi Arabia, at Qatar 2022.

On December 18, 2022 Kylian Mbappe’s equalizer against Argentina in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 has been nominated for the “Most Beautiful” goal category. Brazilian forward Richardson has also been nominated for his bicycle kick goal against Serbia at Qatar 2022.

Argentina’s World Cup hero Emiliano Martinez has been nominated for the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper category. Other nominees in the category include Alison Becker and Ederson of Brazil, Yassin Bounou of Morocco and Thibaut Courtois of Belgium.

Lionel Scaloni of Argentina has been nominated for the Best FIFA Men’s Coach. So are Didier Deschamps of France, Walid Regargui of Morocco, Pep Guardiola of Spain and Carlo Ancelotti of Italy.

Argentina has two nominations for Best FIFA Men’s Player: Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez. France also has two nominations: Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema. Brazil is the only other team with more than one nomination in the category: Neymar and Vinicius Júnior.
