England players bag highest bidding prices in IPL 2023 Auction post T20 WC win


Three English cricketers – Sam Curran, Harry Brook and Ben Stokes – emerged as the costliest players in the latest IPL 2023 auction, with England all-rounder Sam Curran being sold for a whopping price. 18.5 crores to Punjab Kings.

The England all-rounder – Curran – broke the record which was earlier held by South African all-rounder Chris Morris, who was bought by Rajasthan Royals. 16.5 crores in the IPL 2021 auction.

Karan with base price 2 crores, had ignited the Tata IPL 2023 auction in no time and within 10 seconds his price had soared 9 crores with Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, within minutes, his bid price was too high 18.5 crores as Punjab Kings.

Curran’s performance in England’s T20 World Cup campaign is believed to have helped the team become world champions. Curran took 13 wickets – the second most – and was named Player of the Tournament.

The 24-year-old player has played 32 matches so far and has taken 32 wickets in the IPL ad. He also scored 337 runs. He made his IPL debut in 2019.

Apart from Curran, other players who were picked at a higher price include England all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 200 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought another batsman Harry Brook for 16.25 crores 13.25 crores.

Interestingly, English player Joe Root whose base price was 1 crore, was not sold in this season. Even England’s Tom Banton remained unsold.

Looking at the bidding pattern, it can be seen that those who performed well in T20 World Cup 2022 were sold at a higher price. However, this year’s bidding was dominated by English players.
