IPL 2023: Auction dates, players under hammer revealed

Preparations for the 2023 edition of the world’s richest cricket tournament are underway as the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday announced the list for the auction to be held in Kochi on December 23.

Initially, 369 players were shortlisted by 10 franchises out of a total registration of 991 players. Later, as the franchises requested 36 more players, the total number of players to be auctioned reached 405.

According to IPL, out of 405 players, 273 are Indian and 132 are foreign players, out of which 4 players are from associate countries. The total number of capped players is 119, uncapped players are 282, and 4 are from associate nations.

“A maximum of 87 slots are now available with up to 30 slots for foreign players. Rupee. 2 crore is the highest reserve price with 19 overseas players to be placed in the highest bracket. 11 players are in the auction list with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore. Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal are the two Indian players in the list of 20 cricketers with a base price of Rs 1 crore,” the IPL said in a statement.

In 2021, two new franchises entered the IPL – Lucknow Super Giants led by Indian batsman KL Rahul and Gujarat Titans with Hardik Pandya as captain. Both the new franchises did well in their league debut, with Gujarat Titans also emerging champions after defeating Jos Buttler-led Rajasthan Royals.

The last tournament didn’t go too well for traditional champions like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, who didn’t even qualify for the playoffs and finished last on the points table.
