the toss India chose to bowl against Australia

India won the toss and decided to field for the fourth consecutive match against Australia in the fifth T20 match played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur said at the toss that Jemimah Rodrigues has been rested to bring in an extra spinner in the form of Rajeshwari Gaikwad, “hopefully to restrict the runs.” Gaikwad played in the third T20I, but was then dropped in the fourth game as an extra batsman in the form of Harleen Deol.

Tahlia McGrath is captaining Australia in the absence of Alyssa Healy, who strained her calf while batting in the previous game. Phoebe Litchfield replaced her in the squad, while fast bowler Kim Garth returned for Megan Schutt.

Australia went into the match having already clinched the series after a seven-run win in the fourth match at the Brabourne Stadium, leading 3–1.
